Objective: This study investigated the relationships between serum apolipoprotein A5(APOA5)and other clinical indexes,and analyzed the relationships between APOA5 and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods:The subjects were divided into two groups: type 2 diabetes without carotid atherosclerosis(NAS)group(52 cases),type 2 diabetes with carotid atherosclerosis(CAS)group(80 cases),and 38 healthy subjects were recruited as control group(NGT).The concentration of serum APOA5 was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),and other related clinical and laboratory indexes were also detected.All the data were processed by SPSS 19.0 software: T test was used for the comparison between the two groups,and one-way ANOVA analysis was used for the comparison between the three groups.The correlation between serum APOA5 and clinical parameters was analyzed by Pearson single correlation analysis and multiple linear stepwise regression analysis,respectively.Single factor analysis and logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the related factors of carotid atherosclerosis.P < 0.05 indicates that the difference is statistically significant.Results:The level of APOA5 in CAS group and NAS group was lower than that in NGT group [(61.63± 20.34)vs(79.04 ±22.08),(103.44± 21.40)ug /L,p < 0.01 ];Serum APOA5 concentration in CAS group was lower than that in NAS group [(61.63±20.34),(79.04 ±22.08)ug / L,p < 0.01 ].Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum APOA5 was negatively correlated with TG、BMI、Hb A1c、FIns、FPG、HOMA-IR(r =-0.726,-0.270,-0.478,-0.397,-0.287,-0.331,p < 0.01),and positively correlated with HDL-C(r = 0.524,p < 0.01).There was no correlation with sex,age,course of disease,SBP,DBP,TC,LDL-C(p > 0.05).The results of multiple linear stepwise regression showed that TG and HDL–C were independent influencing factors of serum APOA5.Multivariate stepwise logistic regression analysis showed that LDL-C and APOA5 were independent influencing factors of CAS.Conclusion:The serum APOA5 concentration in T2 DM patients is lower than that in normal subjects.The serum APOA5 concentration in T2 DM patients with carotid atherosclerosis is lower than that in T2 DM patients without carotid atherosclerosis,suggesting that APOA5 may be a protective factor of T2 DM and may be related to the carotid atherosclerosis of diabetes,and may become a potential therapeutic target for macrovascular complications of T2DM.
