Objective:Through the comparison of gender, age, body mass index and polysomnography indicators in drinking and non-drinking OSA patients,to analyze the relationship between OSA and drinking;to compare the changes of polysomnography indicators in drinking alcohol and non-drinking before bedtime in OSA patients,to further clarify the impact of alcohol on the condition of OSA patients. Methods:A retrospective case-control study was conducted to collect the clinical data of patients diagnosed as OSA in the Department of Respiratory Medicine, the First Hospital of Jilin University from Juary 2005 to October 2010,a total of120 cases. The patients were divided into alcohol-drinking group(n=65,the amount of alcohol is 20-1980 g/month)and non-drinking group(n=55)according to their drinking or not.And we collected the clinical data of the two groups to compair the result of gender, age, body mass index and polysomnographyindicators, analysistherelationshipbetween polysomnography indicators and drinking. In addition,we take a polysomnography of 76 OSA patients after drinking a certain dose of white wine(containing 40g of alcohol)before they going to bed,to compared changes of polysomnographic indicators of patients with and without drinking before going to bed.Results:1.The AHI of drinking patients was higher than that in non-drinkers(P=0.0002),LSaO2 in patients was lower than that in non-drinkers(P<0.0001),the longest apnea time was longer than that in non-drinkers(P=0.0002).2.The AHI was positively correlated with alcohol consumption in drinking group(r=0.84088,P<0.0001),LSaO2 was negatively correlated with alcohol consumption(r=-0.84401,P<0.0001),the longest apnea time was positively correlated with alcohol consumption(r=0.56635,P<0.0001).3.OSA patients who drank alcohol before going to bed had higher AHI(P<0.0001),longer apnea time(P<0.0001),and lower LSaO2(P<0.0001)than without drinking alcohol before going to bed.4.Excluding the effects of age, gender,BMI,and hypertension,AHI,LSaO2,and longest apnea time were statistically related to alcohol consumption(P<0.0001).Conclusion:1.Drinking alcohol can aggravate the condition of OSA patients, and those who consume more alcohol are even more serious.2.Drinking is an independent risk factor for OSA,and drinking alcohol before going to bed can significantly worse the condition of OSA patients.
