Objective:Atherosclerosis is a chronic disease characterized by the deposition of excessive cholesterol in the arterial intima.Macrophage foam cells play a critical role in the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis. The generation of these cells is associated with the imbalance of cholesterol uptake, esterification and efflux. To find genes that regulate macrophage foam cells is important for the control of atherosclerosis.Method:In this project, mindin and apoE double knockout mice was used as models to investigate the mechanism of mindin on atherosclerosis. To clarify the effect of mindin in foam cell formation,we designed some in vivo and in vitro experiments. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess whether mindin was a novel molecule target for preventing atherosclerosis.Result:Mindin deficiency increased plaque stability, reduced atherosclerotic inflammatory response, and influenced the formation of macrophage foam cells, which delayed the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis.Mindin overexpre-ssion exacerbated the inflammatory response and accelerated the formation of macrop-hage foam cells. Conclusion:Mindin affects the formation of macrophage foam cells through direct binding to the nuclear transcription factor LXR-b to regulate the intracellular cholesterol export pathway and participate in the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis.
