| ObjectiveTo investigate the status of posttraumatic stress disorder among parents of children with leukemia and analyze the influencing factors. To explore the intervention of acceptance and commitment therapy on parents of children with leukemia’s posttraumatic stress disorder.Methods(1)A total of 238 parents of children with leukemia from 4 hospitals in Hunan province from January to June of 2017 were investigated with PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version(PCL-C),Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-2nd Edition(AAQ-Ⅱ),Coping Health Inventory for Parents(CHIP)and self-designed general information questionnaire. To investigate the status of posttraumatic stress disorder among parents of children with leukemia, and analyze the influencing factors the relationships among the degree of empirical avoidance and the parental coping styles.(2)According to a randomly sampling method to collect the parents of leukemia children hospitalized from July 2017 to February 2018 in the Department of Hematology of a pediatric specialty hospital in Hunan province. The researcher chose 80 parents and randomly divided into intervention group and control group,34 parents and 36 parents each completed the study.Based on acceptance and commitment therapy,The intervention group(n=34)took acceptance and commitment therapy for 6 weeks and the control group(n=36)took conventional psychological intervention to measure the posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms, empirical avoidance, and parental coping styles.(3)All statistical data were performed using IBM SPSS(statistics version 18.0 software).Description statistics were calculated for percentage, mean, and standard deviation,t-test,chi-square test, analysis of variance, pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression.Results(1)The score of posttraumatic stress disorder among parents of children with leukemia was(36.92±4.70),and the positive detection rate was 24.8%.The scores of re-experienced dimension was(10.59±1.97),avoidance symptom dimension was(2.27±0.38),and high alertness dimension was(2.09±0.44).(2)The total score of empirical avoidance was(36.96±5.08),and the parental coping styles was(84.76±8.70).The posttraumatic stress disorder scores of parents of children with leukemia were positively related to the empirical avoidance(r=0.708,P<0.05),but they were negatively associated with the parental coping styles(r=-0.533,P<0.05).(3)Multiple linear regression analysis showed that there was a linear regression relationship between empirical avoidance, parental coping style, time of diagnosis, parental education and posttraumatic stress disorder in parents of children with leukemia. The △R2=0.609,so the fitting model explained 60.9% of the total variance. The standardized regression coefficient shows that the empirical avoidance has the most significant effect on the posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms.(4)Before the intervention, there was no significant differences in general demographic data, posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms, experience avoidance, and parental coping style scores between two groups(P>0.05).(5)After the intervention, there was a statistically significant difference between two groups in re-experience symptom dimensiona, avoidance symptoms dimension, high alertness dimension, and posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms(P<0.05),the intervention group scored lower than the control group. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups in empirical avoidance(P<0.05),the intervention group scored lower than the control group. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups in parental coping style(P<0.05),the intervention group scored higher than the control group. The results of the repetitive analysis of variance showed that the posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms of two groups of time effects, intervention effects, and interaction effects were significant(F=33.802,P<0.001;F=15.576,P<0.001;F =14.415,P<0.001);the empirical avoidance of two groups of time effects, intervention effects, and interaction effects were significant(F=22.635,P<0.001;F=8.712,P<0.05;F=22.872,P<0.001);the parental coping style of two groups of time effects, intervention effects, and interaction effects were significant(F=36.753,P<0.001;F=5.721,P<0.05;F=40.391,P< 0.001).Conclusions(1)The scores of posttraumatic stress disorder among parents of children with leukemia were at a moderate level, and empirical avoidance, parental coping style, time of diagnosis, parental education were the influencing factors for the symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder.(2)Acceptance and commitment therapy can reduce parents’ empirical avoidance and improve parental coping styles, thus reduce the symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder. |
