| Objective: Senile Dementia(SD)refers to the intellectual impairment of the elderly(>60 years old)who persisted for more than six months. The clinical manifestations were memory, calculation, language, thinking, orientation and mental disorders, and decreased of daily living ability. The current treatment of the preferred drug, donepezil,is only effective between 22.82% and 31.65%.Although traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture and moxibustion have some advantages in the curative effect of this disease, all kinds of standards are not unified, such as the standard of judging the curative effect. It is necessary to restrict the development and popularization of dialectical medicine or acupuncture.Traditional Chinese massage is a standardized massage manipulation process, which is easier to learn than traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, and is suitable for popularization. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the overall efficacy of traditional Chinese massage in the treatment of senile dementia patients, and to provide new ideas for the treatment of this disease. Methods: Twenty-three patients with senile dementia from two research groups in Wuhan(Wuhan Geriatric Hospital and Wuhan Wuchang Hospital)from the Ministry of Civil Affairs Demonstration Project were selected to implement traditional Chinese massage treatments.Treatment is 40 minutes each time,3 times a week, every other day,and the cycle is 6 months. The pre-treatment and post-treatment observations of the patients were performed using the Simple Mental State Examination(MMSE),Neuropsychiatric Symptom(NPI),Daily Living Activity Scale(ADL)scores, and routine examination results. The post-test data were analyzed using SPSS22.0 statistical software.Result:1.Compared with before treatment, the patients’ MMSE score and ADL score were significantly higher(P<0.01)and NPI scores were significantly lower(P<0.01).The effective rates of MMSE,ADL,and NPI were 60.87%,30.43%,and 47.83%.2.In terms of cognitive function, after six months of treatment, the orientation, memory, recall ability, and language ability of elderly patients with dementia were significantly increased(P<0.05),but the patient’s attention and calculation power were not significantly difference(P<0.05).3.In terms of daily life ability, after six months of treatment, the Physical Self-Study Scale(PSMS)score was significantly higher than before treatment(P<0.01),and the Instrumental Daily Life Scale(IADL)score was Significantly increased before treatment(P<0.05).4.In terms of neuropsychiatric symptoms, after 10 months of treatment,10 abnormal mental symptoms scores were significantly lower(P>0.05),and 2 autonomic function scores were significantly lower(P<0.01).In conclusion:1.Traditional Chinese massage can effectively improve cognitive function in elderly patients with dementia. In terms of cognitive function, this method can effectively improve the patient’s orientation, memory, recall ability, language ability, and no significant improvement in the patient’s attention and calculation.2.Traditional Chinese massage can effectively improve the daily life ability of elderly patients with dementia. This method can effectively improve the patient’s self-care ability and the ability to use everyday life tools, and the patient’s self-care ability is more evident.3.Traditional Chinese massage can effectively reduce neuropsychiatric symptoms in elderly patients with dementia. This maneuver can effectively reduce abnormal psychiatric symptoms and autonomic symptoms in patients, and it is more obvious in reducing autonomic symptoms.4.Traditional Chinese massage is a kind of massage technique that standardizes the operation process and can effectively treat elderly dementia. The operation is easy to learn and worthy of further research and promotion. |
