Several production problems are faced during water flooding.Environmentally,a large volume of produced water could pose environment damage as a source of pollution.Economically, corrosion can be create because of excessive water production. The excessive water production is caused mainly by the heterogeneity of reservoirs, which could lead to poor sweep efficiency and watered-off layers. For this kind of problem,Gel flooding is the suitable option of plugging higher permeability reservoir, and increasing oil recovery. Many reservoirs around the world are experiencing these kinds of problems related to the excessive production of water. Thus, the interest in this research is to evaluate the performance or effect of gel flooding in oil recovery, and its ability of reducing the excessive water production. The aim is to develop a simulation for the implementation of water flooding and gel flooding in an actual oilfield named Liaohe located in china. However, three well patterns, such as five point, seven point and nine point, were developed for each scenario, water flooding and gel flooding.Step by step, based on the reservoir parameters and fluid properties of the actual oil field,we have optimized well pattern, water injection rate and liquid production rate. Therefore, the results of the simulation showed that seven spot is the best well pattern and it is more accurate for this model. In addition, after two years of gel injection, water cut decreases from 98 to 84% and the rate of oil recovery(ORF)for the entire field increase up to 34% compare to 28%ORF of water flooding.
