The Design Of The Experiential Visitor Center In Ancient City Of Pingyao

Against the background of the rapid development of Chinese tourism industry, enriched with diverse culture, the world cultural heritage has received more and more tourists' favorite. At the same time, the development of the tourism industry also promotes the protection of the world cultural heritage. Meanwhile, the coming time of the experiential economy also promotes the changes of people's consumption view in tourism. The tourism activities are not restricted to traditional sightseeing, relaxation and shopping any more but the pursuing of the special experiences and the activities which are under tourists' own plans and arrangements. Facing more and more different needs of the tourists, it is important to design an experiential visitor center which can meets the tourism demand, and also raises the tourism services level and promotes the sustainable development of the ancient city of Pingyao as well.The experiential visitor center takes the "Slow City" as its theme, the tourists' experiential needs as its foundation of design to plan and design the buildings in the places of multi-tourism resources. The visitor center is designed as a combination of cultural experiences, business travel, relaxation and vacation. In the experiential visitor center, the tourists could experience the time-honored histories and diverse ethnic cultures of the ancient city of Pingyao and comprehensively enjoy the charm and the "slow" feeling at the same time.The thesis profoundly illustrates the current situation of the ancient city of Pingyao and concludes the problems and shortcomings of it on the basis of a great deal of references, filed trip and cases study in domestic and abroad. Then, the thesis raises the proposals of design principles of the experiential visitor center from the visitors'experiences in Pingyao. From that design thought, the thesis makes a design plan for the visitor center in the respect of site selection, function layout, area of construction, architectural design and scene experiences. Through the study of the characteristics of the local building, the thesis extracts the relevant architectural signs and applies them to the design of the experiential visitor center to achieve the harmony between the design of the visitor center and the ancient city of Pingyao.In conclusion, the thesis proposes the new ideas of the experiential visitor center design in the ancient city of Pingyao from the perspective of experiential tourism. The proposes of this thesis is to provide reference and guidance for the architectural design in the tourism destinations in the future.
