In The Company's Core Competence, which was published in "Harvard Business Review" in 1990, the authors, Prahalad and Hamel emphasized that the core competence had enabled a company for sustainable development. Based on the theory of core competence, this dissertation was to analyze the process of evaluating a company's core competence, re-constructing its value based on the core competence, and finally adopting the core competence. An Internet-of-Things company was used as an example. The research on the core competence of a company has been a hot academic field; it has a strong theoretical guidance and a wide range of practical significance. At the end of "The Twelfth Five-Year Guideline", China's economic development has entered into a new normal stage, which has been described as "big volume, but low growth". The government has issued a series of macro measures to stabilize the growth, adjust the economic structure, and promote innovations and public ventures. To survive in the fierce competition of the market and grow, the core competence is an essential factor. The findings of this dissertation could provide guidance for the start-up companies. In this dissertation, we used a case-by-case method, as well as a method of combining the theory and practice. As an example, the T company is an Internet-of-Things company incorporated in Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park in 2003. The company has been developing internet technologies for the coal industry. First, we analyzed the value chain and SWOT model for the T company. Then, we analyzed the Porter's Diamond Model for its company competence, then described and analyzed the different aspects of the model about the company.Secondly, we also studied how the T company had adopted its core competence. Based on the value chain theory, we analyzed the development problems of the T Company in four categories: management, R & D, marketing and sales, and company culture. There was a strategy to solve those problems, so we analyzed this strategy based on the theory of strategy map. Finally, we discussed some common methods for the verification of the core competence. We briefly described some popular domestic and international companies as examples. To verify the competence of the T Company, we discussed the results of the core competence development in the T Company. We also had conclusions for the current study and discussions for the future research.
