The Patent Portfilio Research Of Visible Light Comunication

Visible light communication(Hereinafter referred to as “VLC”)is a wireless optical communication technology based on high speed transmission of LED,whose technical research and patent layout have been carried out all around world,especially in Europe,America,Japan and other countries and regions.Faced with fierce technical and market competition,domestic enterprises and research institutes should fully understand and attach great importance to the patent layout trend of VLC technology.According to the analysis of 1734 scientific and technological documents of VLC retrieved on the Web Of Science,it can be seen that the technology of VLC has experienced the germination period,development period and mature period;the research of this technology is mainly focused on the intensity modulation/direct detection system,DC bias of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system,signal space diversity technology,power allocation technology and so on.Important research institutions are mainly concentrated in China's colleges and universities,such as Tsinghua University,Fudan University,Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications,Southeast University,and China's PLA Information Engineering University;and the main researchers are Haas H,Chow CW,Chi N and so on.Taking 7070 patents of VLC as samples in the world for analysis,it can be learnt that the number of patent applications of VLC technology is on the rise,and the applicant is mainly concentrated in Japan and Europe.By analyzing the hotspot research of this field,we can see that the trend of CPC H04 B10/116 is consistent with and the overall trend,however other classification numbers manifest different trends in different period.In term of the patent coupling based on CPC,the institutions that contribute both to the scientific and technical literature and patent literature is mainly institutions of higher education.At the same time,there is few people who is both researcher and inventor.This shows that the activities of researchers is still insufficient in the patent field,therefore,companies should focus on cooperation with major foreign researchers.By analyzing important foreign competitors like Samsung Corp,Panasonic Corp and PHILPS,as well as important domestic competitors like Shenzhen kuangqi,ZTE,and China's PLA Information Engineering University,we can find that importantdomestic competitors is still at an inferior position,especially in the aspects of the number of patent applications,the number of core patents and the number of cross regional patent applications.In order to promote the development of the technology of VLC in China,it is suggested to add patent citations to patent application documents;increase capital investment in technologies like intensity modulation/direct detection system,DC bias of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system,signal space diversity technology,power allocation technology;encourage the cooperation between enterprises and core research institutions and major researchers,so that these subjects are able to play their own advantage.In sum,more attentions should be payed to the research hotspots,future development trend as well as patent layout strategies,so as to further avoid the risk of patent infringement,and impel a breakthrough in core technology,thus promoting the development of VLC technology in China.
