As Internet technology achieves iterative development,Japanese animation work One Piece has disseminated widely among the youth group.It has blasted everything we usually know about animation and successfully overturns the animation model featuring childish content and simplified ideology by creating a grand,profound and open-minded world outlook.With advances in Web 2.0,a large number of hard-core fans,that are well-educated with a wide age gap in different regions driven by the entertainment trend and individuals'free will,has been gathering on Internet communities and social media.This paper themes One Piece fans' identity and is designed to explore formation process and features of online One Piece fandom culture,factors that influence their identity,and identity construction in the process of cross-cultural communication.With focus on qualitative research,this paper chooses to conduct in-depth interviews with One Piece fans from the post bar of Baidu,a leading online community in China.Taking as reference British's well-known contemporary sociologist Giddens's and American well-known contemporary social psychologist Mead's research on identity,this paper presents a deliberate analysis and interpretation on the collective behaviors of One Piece fans in three aspects of generalizing others,projection and resonance,and differentiation to dig out the psychological motivation behind them.Chapter One,as an introduction part,elaborates the research background,its importance,research status both at home and abroad,research objects and methods.Chapter Two presents the detailed development history of online One Piece fandom on the basis of the combination of the popularity of One Piece,the development of the post bar of One Piece,the formation process of One Piece fandom and ways of group communication among One Piece fans.Chapter Three,the body part,examines carefully the whole process of identity construction behind the One Piece fandom culture by analyzing fans'behaviors.Chapter Four explores how fans establish identity when facing mental conflicts through the comparison between the identities of being a One Piece fan and a Chinese.Chapter Five analyses the reasons behind fans' attachment to One Piece and the post bar of One Piece,and strive to presents an overall image of online One Piece fandom.
