Currently, the wireless communicating technology is developing quickly. The communicating quality is required higher than ever.Ad Hoc network is a built-in transmitting and receiving network topology .It has a very strong dynamic characteristics. It can be deployed rapidly without any fixed infrastructure, and it has strong flexibility and adaptability in the data transmission. It has been widely used in the potential applications, such as sensors, personal communication, transprotation and so on. Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector Routing(AODV) is one of the most widely used on-demand routing protocol .It will establish a new route only when there is no route to the target node. The AODV protocol can be used in underwater communication with long delay time, fast energy consumption, and frequent link interruption. To solve the above problems,in this paper,we put forward P-AODV(the routing based on prediction),it reduces the energy consumption and prolongs the underwater communication time, which is more suitable for the multi-AUV research in a large underwater area.Firstly this paper introduces the research achievements of routing protocol as well as the development trend. Then based on the routing discovery and maintenance process of the AODV,this paper analyzes the specific working principle and proposes the improments for large area and multi AUV formation search underwater. It proposes the directional angle mechanism and multi routing discovery, routing maintenance mechanism underwater which can reduce the energy consumption, narrow the range. It proposes the prediction and setting node energy threshold mechanism which can effectively reduce the routing overhead, this mechanism makes full use of characteristics of the long delay time. Finally, this paper creates wireless scenarios and compares this optimization routing protocol with the AODV routing protocol. The simulation data shows that the improved protocol(P-AODV routing protocol)reduce the average end-to-end delay, route discovery frequency and energy consumption. The data also indicate that the improved AODV protocol(P-AODV routing protocol) has better performance than AODV in underwater formation search scenarios.
