Based on the background of new cultures and values formed by dramatic industrialization of South Korea, this paper compares values highlighted in South Korean moral textbooks and TV dramas and investigate the consistency of values in textbooks and the development of society,to provide some ideas for the improvement of moral textbooks.Firstly, the author conducted literature review to defined the key concepts of culture and values, and then introduced the cultural foundation of South Korean society and the category of values concerned in this paper.Secondly, based on the target and content of current moral education courses in South Korean, the author chose the middle school moral textbooks published by South Korean Genius Education Press textbooks to investigate and the TV series You Who Came From the Stars TV as comparison object. Then, the comparison of values in textbooks and TV drama was conducted from five aspects:cyber ethics and etiquette,eco-friendly life, neighborhood caring and cooperation, gender equality, and ethics of life.Through the comparison, this study find that the core values advocated in school moral education are fundamentally consistent with those presented in the Korean TV series, but the means are different. The textbook puts more weight on cognitive comprehension,as its contents are relatively abstract. In contrast, the TV series embodies the values in specific life events, more intuitive and likely to cause people's experience and empathy. As for gender equality, both the textbook and the TV series reinforce traditional gender discrimination. In regards to ethics of life, the textbook is far too utopian, while the TV series brings more negative cases. Therefore, there is much room for improvement for both sources. In general,it is suggested that the textbooks on morality used in South Korean can be improved from the following aspects.Firstly, the objectives of morality education should be changed from the construction of an idealized country to the individual's development,to highlight the values for individual's interests and pursue in reality.Secondly, the key point of moral course should be focus on the cultivation of democratic spirit,so the content of multiculturalism should be supplemented in textbooks.Thirdly, textbooks should avoid abstract by supplying more specific cases and real-world situations. In this way, students can be given more opportunities to explore the significance and value of morality on their own.Lastly,it is also important for textbooks to help students shape a positive outlook on gender equality.
