City image is an intangible asset and wealth of a city,which is the overall performance of city's political,economic,natural,cultural and other elements.Among them,the culture of a city is the foundation of a city's image,which is embodied in the construction of it.The culture of a city often spread on multiple levels and multiple carriers.Among the numerous carriers,the museum has a unique status and plays an important role in the city cultural communication.The museum collections are the root of a city's culture,the unique architectural appearance of the museum is the publicity of the personality of the city,and the exhibitions and activities of museum are the extension of the city's culture.The cultural atmosphere created by the museum also nourished the citizens,shaping their character and aspiration.Based on the above background,this thesis focuses on the study "the cultural communication of museum and the construction of city image ".To make it easier to understand and grasp the contents of this paper,the author selects Chengdu and the museum resources of Chengdu as a case study,focusing on the study of what kind of role the museums play in the construction of city image of Chengdu.This thesis adopts qualitative research,the research methods include both questionnaire survey and interview,in which the interview includes: depth interview telephone interview and free interview.Based on the survey data,collected interview data and text data from network,this paper adopts the grounded theory analysis method.The research follows the process of the open encoding-spindle encoding-selective encoding,which is also the innovation of this study.150 concepts are extracted from all the data,33 open encoding categories are extracted then,and develop 8 spindle encodings from these areas.Finally,in the phase of select encoding,the core category,sub-core areas,the general category come into being.The result of this study shows that the function of museum cultural communication in the construction of a city's image is mainly in three aspects: as a city's landscape,museum plays an important role in the construction of a city's landscape image;the construction of the museum's cultural space atmosphere contributes to the construction of the city's cultural image;museum plays an important role in the construction of a city's cultural industry image,since the culture of the museum can promote the development of the city's cultural industry.
