3D printing technology is based on the principle of material additive, and it can be made arbitrarily complex geometry entity, which is now known as one of the most promising technology. With the application of the technology in different areas growing, people take the more and more high request to the forming quality and efficiency. To achieve the high quality and efficiency to print, we do a thorough research for 3D printing technology of model slicing and scanning path generating so on several aspects in this paper. The concrete research content is as follows:(1) Aiming at the problem that the discrete model is flawed and model slicing is inefficient, the slicing algorithm with fault-tolerance ability and efficiency is proposed. First, each of the triangles of model is placed in the corresponding interval set by grouping algorithm, which makes the tangent plane and triangles in the corresponding interval set intersection operation directly. Second, through the analysis of effect of defect model for the generation of slice contour, and special treatment for the problems such as single side, isolated edge, and non-closed contour in the process of cross segment ordering. The results show that the stability of slicing algorithm is improved.(2) To make the fractal scanning path better application in the 3D printing, the defect problem of fractal scanning path is optimized. First, using cubic uniform B-Spline curve to transition process the corner of the path, and the path C2 order continuity is realized. Second, the improved ant colony algorithm was used for the connection of fractal scanning path, the empty trip and the tool-retraction on the same layer was reduced.(3) To realize the rapid manufacturing of lightweight model and ensure that the model has good mechanical properties, the multi parameter and controllable method of honeycomb path generation is proposed. First, according to the size of the bounding box of the model, the initial filling area of honeycomb path unit is determined. Then, to only preserve the honeycomb path unit in the region of the actual filling area, the honeycomb path unit grid is tailored by the position relationship of each honeycomb path unit and the actual filled areas.Through the above research work, the 3D printing software module of model slicing and scanning path generation based on VS2008 and OpenGL platform is developed, and the test results are excellent.
