In the twenty-first Century, with rapid development of the microelectronic technology, sensor technology, communication technology and Internet, also make the wireless sensor network technology got great progress, nowadays, more and more concern and research focus on it. Wireless sensor network is a monitoring area with a large number of wireless sensor nodes, and these areas maybe in the abominable conditions, generally, the energy of sensor nodes are based on battery powered, if the battery is exhausted, it is not easy to replace. So in the current power supply technology constraints, to extend the life cycle of wireless sensor networks, improve the efficiency of energy, only through to put forward a new theory of the routing protocol with lower energy consumption.Firstly, studies on the routing protocol of wireless sensor network, then it is divided into three types, each type of focus on the most representative routing protocols, and compared with these routing protocols, then mainly studies on the most classic protocol of LEACH protocol and PEGASIS protocol in the cluster structure routing protocol, in accordance with the defect of LEACH protocol and PEGASIS protocol, then improve it to obtain LEACH-E protocol and ES-PEGASIS protocol. Finally, through to analysis with the energy consumption model of LEACH-E protocol and PEGASIS protocol, elaborated on the best selection method of cluster-head in LEACH-E protocol, then through to the MATLAB platform, simulated the LEACH-E protocol and ES-PEGASIS protocol, the result proved LEACH-E protocol consume lower energy than LEACH protocol in the network, extend the life of the network, and also the ES-PEGASIS protocol can extend the network life cycle about 25% compared with the PEGASIS protocol.
