China's national image has been the important theme to which much attention has been paid. During the thirty years of reform and opening up, China has been developing at an amazing speed, and has gradually become the world's second largest economy. And the Worldwide attention obtained has increased significantly. Now, Republicans and Democrats are also busy with the layout of the 2016 presidential election. Under this background, Chinese President Xi Jinping had a four days' state visit to America between September 22 and 25, 2015 for president Obama's invitation, which is the first state visit to the United States after Xi Jinping became the Chinese president. Naturally, Xi Jinping's trip to America become the focus of attention of the world.For a long time, the research on China's National Image had been put focus on the traditional western media reports about China. Right now, the traditional media in the East and West are undergoing profound changes, the new media ecology has been formed. The emergence of social networking platforms based on the internet make the world no longer have only a voice of the traditional media, and public opinion is gathered into another voice through the platform of Internet. Therefore, research on national image is not confined to the traditional media, social network provides us with a new perspective to understand national image. As a representative of the social network, Twitter is one of the ten most visited sites in the world. Based on its powerful influence, to some extent, it can be said that Twitter users' perception of the Chinese national image represents the China's national image of foreign social networks.As for research method, Twitter is taken as the research object, tweets related China published by Twitter English users during Xi Jinping's visit to the United States are taken as the unit of analysis, and the method of Social network text analysis is used to make 2845 tweets related classified and encode. From two dimensions of the issue distribution and emotional tendency, the article makes a detailed analysis of the Chinese national image in the eyes of Twitter English users.In the part of the research results, first of all, the article a detailed statistical description of the distribution of the issue and the emotional tendency of the tweets; Secondly, the content of the tweets is analyzed, and the perception of the Chinese national image of Twitter English users is summarized, including political image, economic image, cultural image, social image and so on.In the part of conclusion, first of all, Chinese national image in the eyes of Twitter English users is summarized; Secondly, the Twitter English user's perception of Chinese national image and the Chinese national image presented by western traditional media reports are compared, and the reasons of cognitive differences on Chinese national image of different categories between the social network users are summarized. Third, the differences between American mainstream media reports on China issues, sentiment and twitter English users' tweets about China, emotional tendency during Xi Jinping's visit to the United States are analyzed. At last, a simple comparison between the influence of Chinese media accounts and Western media accounts in Twitter is made, the difference between Chinese media and Western media in terms of the discourse power of social network is analyzed and the main producers and transmitters about public opinion related China in social network are found out.In the last part, combined with cognitive status of Twitter English users on China's national image and the problems China related tweets reflected the problems reflected in the tweets related China, a few suggestions about how to effectively enhance China's national image on the social era are provided : first of all, a rational and objective view of the negative remarks on foreign social networks is needed and seriously self-examination is needed to be carried out; Secondly, the charm of the leader should be fully demonstrated, and the image of great power leaders should be shaped in all aspects; Third, the Chinese media "going out" strategy should be carried out and a three-dimensional pattern of external communication should be built.In a word, this paper combines quantitative and qualitative research, synthesizes content analysis, case analysis and other research methods. Although the article outlines the cognitive map of China's national image in the eyes of Twitter English users, this paper is a hard work owing to the method of analysis of social network, especially the difficult sample acquisition, complex information, the difficulty in sorting out, as well as the lack of corresponding theoretical support and so on.
