From The Presses Of The18th CPC National Congress To The Construction Of National Image Of China Daily

China Daily is representative in China’s media, which has been effectively into the international mainstream society and has created a certain influence in the external communication. This study selects the China Daily’s reports during the18th Chinese Communist Party National Congress as sample. It choses content analysis and text analysis, which are combinations of quantitative and qualitative research approach as study methods.In the content analysis, first, through the analysis of changes in the layout of China Daily, we get to know the transforms of its appearance, as well as the efforts were made to create the image of the nation; then through the grasp of the distribution of the reported content themes to illustrate the intention and the tendency of the media gatekeepers; finally, analysis of the information sources and emotion of the news to reveal the reason Chinese external communication media lack of objectivity and public trust. In the aspect of text analysis, by analyzing the case in China Daily’s reports in the form of text and textual pattern, so as to grasp the reports’texts characteristics and the ideology abided by the newspaper.In the conclusion part, the author summarizes the main strategy through used in building China’s national image:first, to build China’s national image though experts, scholars and the media and government officials; second, though emphasizing the government made in the face of challenges efforts; third, through objective report and positive report. And pointed out that the report problems mainly in the following aspects:first, reports present strong political color; secondly, the negative reports are few; finally, report forms of discourse and discourse organization mode is not conducive to understand. Concludes that measures should be taken in the construction of national image:1desalination political color, present the Chinese culture;2reported the real comprehensive, face the negative news;3improve the professional quality, attention to in-depth reports and interpretative reporting.
