In the context of rise and rapid development of new network media, Science Popularization Micro Videos, which have features of vivid content, precise length, quick and convenient in communication, are newly emerging and significant forms in popularizing science in China. This dissertation aims to explore the communication forms, communication characteristics and trends of Science Popularization Micro Video in the environment of new media communication, and thus to enhance its contribution in science popularization in network.There are four categories of Science Popularization Micro Video. They are science cartons, science experiments, science micro films and science lectures. Compare to the video-based television science programs, Science Popularization Micro Video featured by personalization, decentralization and fragmentation. Overall, there are less related programs of Science Popularization Micro Video on professional science popularization websites in China, most of them are distributed on video sharing sites, and made by the professional teams.The creation modes of Science Popularization Micro Videos are classified into three categories. They are commissioned by video demand sides, or produced by science popularization organizations or teams, or solely funded by professional teams. Their creative process includes the originality in pre stage and production in post stage. The principles of selecting topics are based on the topic's scientificity and its popularity, meanwhile, social hot events, audience demands and common sense are the main sources. Moreover, the addition of labeling subtitles, systematic collocation of sound and pictures and reasonable rhythm of control lead to the unification of scientificity in content and interest in expression.Science Popularization Micro Videos are mainly communicated through the Internet and the Mobile Internet. Besides the features of micro length, micro content, and micro cost of micros video, Science Popularization Micro Videos have their own characteristics. Firstly, the content of scientific knowledge are easy to understand. Secondly, they are more in line with the fragmentation communication era. Thirdly, the digital social network builds a platform for the communication of Science Popularization Micro Videos.Through the study of creation process and communication characteristics of Science Popularization Micro Videos, this dissertation found some problems existing in the development, lack of rigor, similar content and less boutique brands, for example. Several strategies have been proposed intents to increase the level of Science Popularization Micro Videos:To pursue high quality and content to build core competitiveness; to balance the function of learning and entertainment; to establish the awareness of brand and high quality; to strength the capacity of science popularization teams.s...
