The English teaching in primary schools of China has entered a new stage of comprehensive launching and overall promotion.The performances of the English teachers in primary schools,who are the specific implementers in education teaching process,will directly determine the effectiveness of the new course reform and English teaching in primary schools.Good sense of professional identity can prompt the English teachers in primary schools to realize self-refreshing,self-perfectness and self-development,work with positive attitude and solve the various conflicts and pressures in the work thus to guarantee the high-qualitied teaching of the teachers and the high-qualitied learning of the students.However,there are no systematic researches on the sense of professional identity of the English teachers,therefore,the current situation of the identity for professional status of English teachers in primary schools has become the problem worthy of exploring.Taking the theory of professional identity of teachers,this paper designs the Scale for Current Situation of the Professional Identity of the Primary School English Teachers from four dimensions,such as the identity for occupational value,the identity for professional knowledge and ability,the identity for personal environmental situation and the identity for behavior orientation,and do a survey on 204 primary school English teachers in Suzhou.The research shows that the overall level of professional identity of English teachers is high,wherein,the identity for behavior orientation is high while the identity for personal environmental situation is relatively low.In addition,combined with the interview method,the paper makes the analysis and explanation on the factors which influence the professional identity of primary school English teachers from the aspects including the working attitudes and feelings,the view of training and their pursuits for professional development.The paper puts forward the strategies and suggestions to the different groups: The Education Department can enrich the training contents and modes,combining the theory with practice;the school can perfect the school-based training mode,meanwhile establish the harmonious interpersonal relationship and the teacher professional community;besides,the teachers can reflect their teaching and establish the portfolios for their professional development.
