Research On Shanghai White Collar Drama In The New Century

Shanghai white-collar drama sprouted in the 1990's and was officially born in 2001,which has experienced a vigorous development later,showing a flourishing state now.Shanghai white-collar drama is characterized by the timeliness of story selection,secularity of content conception and entertainment of show techniques.The timeliness refers to non-pursuit of classics to meet the current needs;secularity is reflected in selection of themes and plots,which does not come down to too obscure propositions but interprets daily contradictions and conflicts;entertainment aims to attract others' attention and produce visual wonders.Shanghai white-collar drama seems to be accessories of commercial operation,but in fact,its cultural causes are more complex.Firstly,it has embodied the resonance of the popular culture and the mainstream emotion;secondly,it has embodied the integration of commercial and artistry;finally,it has embodied the inclusiveness of Shanghai-style culture,all which allows Shanghai white-collar drama to produce the unique charm.This paper is intended to study the repertoire of white-collar dramas created and performed in Shanghai since the new century,summarize the artistic creation characteristics,explore the cultural causes behind them,analyze predicament and crisis faced by them,and put forward some feasible suggestions for the future development.
