Significant Form

Over the past twenty years,Liu Zhenyun has insisted on pursuing changes on the text forms and narrative strategies.Meanwhile,he has paid much attention to the survival predicament and implications of philosophy.Liu's work is praiseworthy both on its external form and internal idea.By using grave and stern words with complicated phrases to express loneliness and sadness,as well as life sufferings and absurdness,he builds a new system on life observation and reflection in his masterpiece,One Sentence Counts for Ten Thousands,which is full of implications of philosophy.This paper,focused on the work One Sentence Counts for Ten Thousands,extracts and explains the philosophy and narrativity of the work,and tries to summarize the relation between them with “significant form” based on the description of Liu's literary creation.This thesis seeks to make an objective and accurate research on the literary viewpoints and writing styles with Liu's characteristics,and further refines the academic research work of One Sentence Counts for Ten Thousands on the whole.The thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter one presents an introduction to the reasons for choosing this topic and also points out the significance of this study,as well as relevant research about this topic and the research methods.Chapter two describes Liu's literary creation for more than twenty years and his literary ideas by discussing and analyzing his works.Chapter three,by close reading,summarizes three kinds of relations——relationship between human beings,relationship between human and thing and relationship between human and fate in the novel,so as to explore the implications and concerns of philosophy in Liu's work.Chapter four discusses the uniqueness of the novel on its form and narrative strategies on the basis of narratology.In addition,it gives specific explanation on two parts——time series and language,and probes into the dialectical relationship between the two parts which embody and influence each other,referring to the related statements on implications of philosophy in Chapter three.
