ObjectivesTo manifest the feasibility of empowerment education theory model to patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI)after PCI,we investigate its effects on the physical and mental condition of patients with AMI after PCI,and the effects on the level of knowledge and behavior of primary caretakers were also studied. Our study could provide theoretical support for the application of empowerment education theory model to those patients with AMI after PCI.MethodsThis study was designed by randomized controlled trials. All the subjects were randomly divided into intervention group and control group by random number table method.Empowerment health education model was applied to the intervention group, while the control group received routine health education. All the patients and their primary caretakers provided basic information of demography, the score of life quality for patients and the score of knowledge and behavior for caretakers were also collected. The data were analyzed by SPSS 19.0 statistical software.ResultsThere had 46 subjects in the intervention group, with the mean age of 58.54±12.35 years, while the control group had 40 subjects, with the mean age of 61.13±11.36 years. The ratio of male is larger for that of female. No statistical difference in the analyzed variables was observed between those two groups. The score of SF-36,including score of Physiological Functioning,Bodily Pain and General Health, was statistically higher than that of control group, and no difference in Role-Physical,Role-Emotional,Social Functioning,Mental Health,Vitality and Health Transition were observed. While the score of knowledge, belief and behavior for the primary caregivers in intervention group was(16.72 ± 3.69),(29.70 ± 4.48)and(29.18 ± 10.42)respectively,which was low.The difference in the cognitive level of coronary heart disease varied widely.ConclusionsBased on our present study, the empowerment education program for patients with AMI after PCI conserved scientificity and feasibility. The empowerment education, combined with the assistance of the primary caregivers, could improve the quality of patients with AMI after PCI effectively. However, due to the short duration of follow-up and the small sample size, the intervention effect was not fully demonstrated. For the primary caregivers, the knowledge about coronary heart disease needs improve, which could facilitate the rehabilitation effect and the quality of life.
