| ObjectiveTo investigate the current status of professional self-differentiation and clinical practice adaptability for clinical nursing students;and to analyze the influential factors of the self-differentiation and clinical practice adaptability for clinical nursing students;and also to explore the effects of the satir model group counseling on the self-differentiation and clinical practice adaptability of clinical nursing students. It might provide the basic references for clinical educators and nursing managers to take corresponding measures for improving their clinical practice adaptability.Methods(1)In October 2015,481 clinical nursing students, who came from the first and second affiliated hospitals of University of south China, were asked to answer the questionnaires with the self-made questionnaire, the differentiation of self inventory, and clinical practice adaptability scale. The students’ current status of the self-differentiation and clinical practice adaptability and their influencing factors were investigated.(2)Based on Satir model theory, the nursing students, who came from several departments whose practice time was one month to three months, were chosen as the research objects.According to the random method and scores of clinical practice adaptability,42 nursing undergraduate interns were as the intervention group, another 42 nursing undergraduate interns were as the control group. The demographic details,self-differentiation and clinical practice adaptability between the two groups were respectively compared. The students in the intervention group were given the group conseling based on Satir model theory for two months besides daily teaching activities as those in the control group.Every group students’ scores of the differentiation of self inventory and clinical practice adaptability scale were calculated respectively and the effect of intervention were assessed.Statistical Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS)18.0 was used to analyze the data, the statistical methods involved t-test,chi-square test, linear correlation and multiple linear model.Results(1)The total mean score of self-differentiation of the students was(3.94±0.52),it was slightly higher than the national norm for college students(3.85±0.63).The mean scores of four dimensions from the lowest to the highest were respectively as following: I-position(3.78±0.73),emotional reactivity(3.79±0.79),the fusion with others(3.84±0.74),and emotional cutoff(4.41±0.73).Personality and attitude towards employment prospects were the influential factors for the nursing students’ self-differentiation.(2)The total mean score of the students’ clinical practice adaptability was(3.37±0.47),the mean scores of the four dimensions from the lowest to the highest were respectively as following: behavior(3.09±0.61),emotion(3.15±0.65),recognition(3.32±0.61),and interpersonal(3.80±0.54).Satisfaction with nursing, personality, attitude towards employment prospects and average grades in school were the influential factors for the students’ clinical practice adaptability. These four factors explained 18.3% of the total variance.(3)The self-differentiation was positively correlated to the students’ clinical practice adaptability(r=57.0%,P<0.05).(4)Before the intervention, there were no significant differences for the demographic details,self-differentiation and clinical practice adaptability between two groups(P > 0.05).(5)After Satir model group counseling, expect for Fusion with Others, mean scores of the nursing students’ self-differentiation and other dimensions[(4.22±0.54),(4.79±0.74),(4.05±0.73),(4.02±0.71)] were more significantly improved than before[(3.83±0.38),(4.20±0.58),(3.63±0.73),(3.60±0.63)] in the intervention group(P<0.05);expect for Fusion with Others, mean scores of the nursing students’ self-differentiation and other dimensions were more significantly improved in the intervention group than those in the control group [(3.81±0.29),(4.22±0.54),(3.56±0.64),(3.62±0.64)](P<0.05).(6)After the satir model group counseling, except for professional recognition, mean scores of the nursing students’ clinical practice adaptability and other dimensions[(3.68±0.47),(4.16±0.56),(3.45±0.52),(3.46±0.66)]were more significantly improved than before [(3.28±0.22),(3.63±0.39),(3.11±0.56),(3.03±0.32)] in the intervention group(P<0.05);except for professional recognition, mean scores of the nursing students’ clinical practice adaptability and other dimensions were more significantly improved in the intervention group than those in the control group[(3.21±0.26),(3.59±0.41),(3.04±0.51),(2.89±0.37)](P<0.05).Conclusions(1)The score of self-differentiation of clinical nursing students was slightly higher than the national norm for college students.Clinical nursing students’ self-differentiation level were different in personality and attitude towards employment prospects.(2)The score of clinical practice adaptability of clinical nursing students was at moderate level, but the development in all respects was unbalanced.Satisfaction with nursing, personality, attitude towards employment prospects and average grades in college or university were the influential factors for the students’ clinical practice adaptability.(3)Satir model group counseling could improve the clinical nursing students’ self-differentiation and promote them to adapt to the clinical environment. |
