Objective: To investigate the incidence and related factors of dry eye disease among the elderly in Luzhi Town,Suzhou,Wuzhong District.Methods: Suzhou Luzhi people’s Hospital of Wuzhong District city in 2015 9~11months to the elderly physical examination(60 to 79 years old)816 people,general medical history,symptoms of dry eye,Schirmer I interrogation test,slit lamp examination,tear break-up time(BUT),corneal fluorescein staining.Results: a total of 816 people,aged-79 years of age,were enrolled in this study.There were only about 463 women(56.74%)in the study.There were 353 males(43.26%),and 184 were diagnosed as dry eye.The prevalence rate of dry eye disease was(22.55%).There were 56 males(15.86%)and females(128)(27.64%).The prevalence of dry eye disease was significantly higher in women than in men(x2=10.21,p=0.00<0.05).60 to 69 age group of 491 people,diagnosed as dry eye disease(n = 85),a total of 325 people aged from 70 to 79,diagnosed as dry eye in 99(30.46%).The prevalence of dry eye disease between the two groups was significantly higher than that in the 70 to 79 age group(x2=19.36,p=0.00<0.05),and the prevalence of dry eye disease was significantly higher in the 60 groups.There were 452 people with no systemic chronic diseases,which were diagnosed as dry eye disease(n = 77)(17.04%).The number of patients with hypertension was about 247,and the number of patients with dry eye disease was 70(28.34%).84 diabetic patients were diagnosed as dry eye disease(n = 25)(29.76%).The number of patients with hypertension complicated with diabetes was 26,diagnosed as dry eye disease in 8(30.77%).There were 7 rheumatoid arthritis patients,diagnosed as dry eye disease in 4(57.14%).The prevalence rate of dry eye disease in elderly patients with hypertension,diabetes,hypertension,diabetes,rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis was significantly higher than that of dry eye disease(x2=16.36,p=0.00<0.05).A total of 761 people with no history of eye surgery were diagnosed with dry eye disease(163)(21.42%).A total of 55 patients with cataract,glaucoma and pterygium surgery were diagnosed as dry eye disease(n = 21)(38.18%).The prevalence of dry eye disease in elderly patients withcataract,glaucoma and pterygium surgery was significantly higher than that of dry eye disease(x2=4.66,p=0.03<0.05).Conclusion: the prevalence rate of dry eye disease among elderly women in Luzhi Town,Suzhou,Wuzhong District,was significantly higher than that in male.The prevalence of dry eye disease in the 70 to 79 age group was significantly higher than that in the 60 to 69 age group.The prevalence rate of dry eye disease in elderly patients with hypertension,diabetes,hypertension,diabetes,rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis was significantly higher than that of elderly patients without systemic diseases.The prevalence of dry eye disease in elderly patients with cataract,glaucoma,and pterygium surgery was significantly higher than that of the elderly who had no history of eye surgery.
