Objectives To explore the application of 3-D printing technology in the total hip arthroplasty(THA)through asisting THA with customized precise cutting templates of hip joint produced by 3-D pingting.Methods From October 2015 to Forty patients received primary total hip arthroplasty were included in this study.Twenty patients’ hips were prepared with the aid of customized templates,and other patients were treated by traditional total hip arthroplasty.Twenty patients of template group underwent scanning with hip joint spiral computed tomography(CT)preoperatively.Three-dimensional CT image data of the hip joint were transferred to a computer workstation.Three-dimensional models of hip joint were reconstructed by use of MIMICS software.Simulation of operation process and patient-special cutting templates were designed in the MIMICS software.Then the templates were manufactured using material of Visijet M3 Crystal by a rapid prototyping machine.Two groups were compared according to clinical results to investigate the role of patient-special cutting templates in the primary total hip arthroplasty.Results There was no statistical significant difference between template group and traditional group in terms of the patient’s general information,preoperative Harris score,preoperative cup abduction angle and cup anteversion angle.Compare to traditional group,template group was lower in terms of the deviation of the cup abduction angle,deviation of the cup anteversion angle,deviation of the femoral stem-shaft angle and the rate of leg length discrepancy.But there were no statistical significant difference between template group and traditional group in terms of the operation time,intraoperative blood loss and postoperative four weeks Harris score.Conclusion patient-special cutting templates made by three dimensional technology express significant accuracy and precision,which are in favour of precisely positioning prosthesis and enhancethe quality of operation.
