Objective We investigated the diagnosis and prevention services of common cold in community children in Xi'an,inspected the knowledge and attitude of community general practitioners(GPs)about the diagnosis and treatment, analyzed the present situation of the diagnosis, treatment, the cognition level, the attitude of community GPs and the related influencing factors,so as to further study the reasons of irregular diagnosis and treatment of common cold in children and to explore corresponding solutions. Methods Using cross-sectional survey research methods,118 GPs from 61 community health service centers in the 6 districts of Xi'an are inspecyed the situation of the diagnosis and prevention of common cold in children. The questionnaire mainly consists of three parts: the general situation, the current situation of supplied diagnosis and prevention service, and the knowledge and attitude about common cold in children. The statistical analysis is performed using SPSS,the count data is verified using x2,and the multivariate regression analysis is analyzed using Logistic. Results 1.The situation of the diagnosis and prevention provided by GPs:(1)the treatment concept of 62.7% of the GPs is correct.(2)46.6% of the GPs routinely use antiviral drugs and 21.2% use dexamethasone as antipyretic.(3)Only 14.4% of the GPs meet the requirements of children's family members on antimicrobial prescriptions, and 90.7% of the GPs sometimes or often chose to propagandize and educate treatments without antibiotics, but only 57.6% of the GPs confirm the effectiveness of the propaganda and education.(4)68.6% of the GPs often propagandize relevant prevention knowledge to children's families.2.Evaluation of GPs' knowledge about common cold in children: the knowledge of 47.5% GPs(56 persons)is poor and the knowledge of 52.5% GPs is fair, but the overall knowledge level is low.The knowledge of GPs with different characteristics are compared and the difference is not statistically significant.3.Compare of the knowledge on common cold in children of GPs with different characteristics: the cognition difference on common cold of GPs with different clinical working years is statistically significant(P<0.05).The selection of the standard appendicitis treatment of GPs with different clinical working years, different titles and different income levels is significantly different(P<0.05).4.Evaluation of GPs' attitude about common cold in children: the attitude of 23.7% GPs(28 persons)is negative and the attitude of 76.3% GPs(90 persons)is positive. The attitude about common cold in children of GPs with different education background and different income levels is significantly different(P<0.05).The attitude of GPs with higher education and higher income level is more positive.5.The influencing factors of the knowledge and attitude of GPs about common cold in children: the multivariate Logistic regression analysis shows that the education background is a factor influencing the attitude about diagnosis and treatment. The attitude of GPs with lower education is relatively more negative. Conclusions The diagnosis and treatment services of GPs about common cold in children still requires specifications. The cognition level of common cold in children need to be improved and the attitude is rather positive.More publicity, education and training with multiple forms should be conducted.Pay attention to the continuing education of GPs and give play to their enthusiasm, thus to improve the diagnosis and prevention service quality of common cold in community children.
