In recent decades,for a typical labor oriented enterprise,the cost associated with Musculoskeletal Disorder(MSD)remains high.Root cause is manual material handling tasks such as pushing,pulling and lifting,and sometimes computer work.MSDs cost more working hours and result in higher turnover rate due to new employee hiring and training.The A Company is facing the same issue.MSDs not only disturb Cast’s life but also decrease Show quality and quantity.The business was impacted.This essay analyzed A Company’s injury data and identified ergonomics risk factors of MSDs.With Taylor’s Motion Analysis theory and job hazard analysis tools,quantitatively analyzed risk factor level and provided corresponding solutions:First,from engineering control’s perspective,strictly follow the design standard.A well designed tool and task is the foundation of MSD prevention.Fitting the tasks to the human will increase the work efficiency and reduce the injury.Second,recruiting eligible Cast for the task is also important.Being eligible means body dimension and strength could meet the task requirement.From training’s perspective,encouraging existing Cast to enroll body strengthen program,will also help reduce the possibility of MSD occurrence.Third,from administration control’s perspective,interfere from multiple admin controls,such as fixing work to rest ratio to ensure the scientific job rotation.Providing medical suggestions and rehab treatment.Early reporting of MSD symptom is also encouraged for MSD prevention purpose.As safeguard measures,this essay suggested defining roles and responsibilities of lines of business to prevent MSDs,adding physical training requirement into Cast’s contract and improving company designers’ safety/ergonomics awareness through case study.
