Musculoskeletal disorders are the most common occupational disease in industrial manufacturing. The main cause is that the efforts applied on muscles and bones exceed the mechanical tolerance and will cause tissue damage. To prevent musculoskeletal disorders, it is necessary to establish an ergonomic evaluation system. The purpose of this study is to develop a noncontact static estimation and analysis system for human joints(called Bio SAFE) to respond the actual industrial needs of PSA Peugeot Citro?n Group. The system can establish a human body model by processing the picture of a workstation and then analyze the biomechanical information. Our research consists of biomechanical modeling and analysis, Bio SAFE software development, simulation study and experimental verifying. Firstly, we established a musculoskeletal model according to human segmental anatomy, and made a dynamic mechanical analysis and a static mechanical analysis. Then, we developed a software called Bio SAFE(Biomechanical Static Articular Force Evaluation) based on MATLAB. And then we stimulated a three-dimensional human body model for biomechanical analysis. We compared with the results of Bio SAFE software and analyzed the error to determine how to reduce Bio SAFE software errors. Finally, we built an optical motion capture system Vicon and a surface electromyography(sEMG) test system Captiv to obtain joint and muscle mechanical information in the view of mechanics and physiology. We compared the results obtained and Bio SAFE software’s results. These tests suggest that Bio SAFE can predict and estimate joint torque and muscle force well. In the end, we successfully delivered Bio SAFE software to the ergonomic department of PSA Peugeot Citro?n Group.
