Objective1.The application of Chinese version of Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly into patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in China(COPD);2.To investigate the physical activity level among patients with COPD,and the factors influencing physical activity.Method194 patients with patients with COPD were enrolled in outpatient clinic of Tianjin First Hospital from March 2015 to May 2016.Patients' generalcharacteristic were collected,Chinese version of Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly was used to measure physical activity,Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey was used to measure quality of life,Self-Efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease 6-Item Scale was used to measure self-efficacy,pedometer was used to measure step,DOSE index was used to measure degree of disease.Determining the psychometric characteristics of Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly, including reliability, validity and measurement error.Reliability was tested by test-retest reliability and internal consistency, validity was tested by content validity, concurrent validity, criterion validity and construct validity, and measurement error was evaluated by the standard error of measurement, minimal detectable change and limits of agreement.Using convenience sampling method, selecting 209 patient with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in outpatient clinic of Tianjin First Hospital and Tianjin Chest Hospital from May 2016 to October 2016.Patients' general characteristic were collected, and using Chinese version of Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly,Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey,Self-Efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease 6-Item Scale,Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory-20 to measure the information.Using univariate analyses to compare the physical activity in different groups and using the Pearson's correlation coefficient or Spearman's correlationcoefficient to test the relationship between continuous variables and physical activity.Stepwise multivariate Cox regression was performed to identify the factors independently associated with physical activity.Results1.The reliability and validity of Chinese version of Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly(PASE-C)among patients with COPD.194 patients were recruited in this study. The Cronbach's ? coefficient of PASE-C was 0.725;the test-retest reliability was 0.980;the Item-Content Validity Index was 0.70 to 1.00;the Scale-Content Validity Index/Universal Agreement was 0.70,Scale-Content Validity Index/Average was 0.93;the criterion validity was0.578;the cocurrent validity was 0.698;the correlation coefficient was 0.522 with SF-36 score,0.600 with SES6 score,-0.444 with modified British Medical Research Council(mMRC)and-0.405 with DOSE index;standard error of measurement was6.93,and minimal detectable change was 19.21.2.Physical activity level in patients with COPD,and the factors influencing physical activity.209 old patients were recruited in this study, the score of PASE-C was 71.29±51.44,which was lower than that of general old people.Univariate analysis revealed physical activity was significantly associated with employment status, oxygen therapy,mMRC scale,GOLD grade, comorbidities including asthma and coronary heart disease in the demographic information(all P<0.05);physical activity had positive correlations with physical functioning,role-physical,role-emotional,vitality,social functioning, mental health, general health, depression, grip strength, chair stand test(all P<0.05);physical activity had negative correlations with age, smoking,DOSE index, anxiety, and five dimensions of the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory-20 including general fatigue, physical fatigue, mental fatigue, reduce motivation and reduced activity(all P<0.05).Stepwise multivariate Cox regression showed that chair stand test(?=0.448),reduced activity(?=-0.243),self-efficacy(?=0.239),employment status(?=-0.133)and asthma(?=0.122)were significantpredictors of physical activity which explained 62.5% of the variance.DiscussionPASE-C had good reliability and validity in old patients with COPD,which can be a tool to assess physical activity of old patients with COPD.For old patients with COPD,their physical activity level is low, which needs to be improved, and leg muscle,fatigue,self-efficacy and employment status are the main factors influencing the physical activity. Thus, paying more attention to physical activity, reducing the risk factors, and taking some measures to improve physical activity and improve quality of life for old patients with COPD.
