ObjectiveTo identify Schnabelia tetradonta in phamacognosy and pharmacological.The page is divided into three parts,to determinate S.tetradonta in phamacognosy;to evaluate optimum extraction process for total saponins from S.tetradonta and study on antioxidant effects;to discuss anti-inflammatory,analgesic and immunomodulatory effects of S.tetradonta.MethodsThe first part: the study was applied by paraffin section,freehand section,powder production and TLC identification method.The morphhology,the tissue,Microscopic structure and TLC were observed.The second part: by using the single factor experiment and response Surface methodology the extraction process of S.tetradonta was optimized.antioxidant activities of were measured by DPPH free radical scavenging,ABTS· scavenging effect and FRAP assay.The third part: by using hot-plate test and establishing ear edema,peritonitis,air-pouch test.The effects on the total protein(TP),superoxide dismutase(SOD),nitric oxide NO,the content of malondialdehyde(MDA),and prostaglandin(PGE2)level in blood serum were determined,and the immune organ index of mice of ear edema and air-pouch were investigated.ResultsThe first part: morphological characteristics were observed in detail.The main characters were confirmed.TLC identification method were established.The second part: the optimal conditions of extraction process were as followed: 40 min as ultrasonic action time,30(V:m)as liquid-solid ratio,77% ethanol solution as the extraction solution.Under these conditions,the content of total saponins reached 3.1 mg/g.The total saponins have indicated strong antioxidant activities by DPPH·.It had moderate total reducing power assays and ABTS· scavenging effect.The third part: S.tetradonta produced significantly inhibitory effects on permeability,and reduced the total protein content,decreased the levels of NO,PGE2 and MDA,increased the activities of SOD.Middle-dose and low-dose could enhance the pain threshold of mice,inhibit the ear edema,significantly influnced the spleen index.ConclusionIn this paper,the pharmacognosy of Schnabelia tetradonta were investigated,the total saponins of extraction and antioxidant activity were determined,anti-inflammatory,analgesic and immunomodulatory effects of S.tetradonta were explored preliminarily.The quality standard was established,providing the material basis and theoretical basis for the development and utilization of resources.
