Objective1 .To translate and revise the three methods which domestic commonly used to assess the risk of musculoskeletal disorders. They were Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA),Occupational Repetitive Actions(OCRA) and Musculoskeletal Questionnaire in Chinese version.2.To assess the reliability and validity of these methods. To investigate the applicability in shipyard workers.Methods1.We translated RULA and OCRA into Chinese and adjusted them appropriately.Musculoskeletal Questionnaire was also revised.2.The modified Chinese version RULA and OCRA was used to observe and measure 241 workers who represent the main type of work in a large shipyard. Intra-rater reliability,inter-rater reliability,Cronbach'a coefficient,split-half reliability and construct validity was used to assess the reliability and validity of the grading results.3.1012 workers from shipyard filled in the Chinese version Musculoskeletal Questionnaire.Item analysis and exploratory factor analysis were used to screen the items.Split-half reliability and Cronbach'a coefficient was used to assess the reliability. Construct validity and correlation analysis was used to assess the validity of the grading results.Results1.The ICC of intra-rater reliability and inter-rater reliability were 0.724 and 0.791.Cronbach'a coefficient was 0.704 and split-half reliability coefficient was 0.699. Eight factors were identified and explained 69.578% of total variation.2.The ICC of intra-rater and inter-rater reliability were 0.6 and 0.44. The range of each factor's intra-rater and inter-rater reliability were 0.35-0.81 and 0.41-0.76. Cronbach'a coefficient was 0.63. All of these illustrated that OCRA have internal consistency and stability. The correlation between each factor and total items were 0.39,0.44,0.75,0.87,0.84.They are all greater than the correlation between each factor. It proved that the content of 5 factors are not repeated and have good correlation with the topic of checklist.3.The items related to musculoskeletal disorders retained 38 through comparisons of extreme groups and exploratory factor analysis. 12 factors, including one independent factors, were identified and explained 61.324% of total variation. The total Cronbach'a coefficient of Musculoskeletal Questionnaire was 0.861 and each factors' a coefficient were 0.898, 0.617, 0.535, 0.537 and 0.705. The split-half reliability coefficient was 0.823.The correlation between each factors and total questionnaire were 0.878,0.694,0.784,0.731,0.674 and 0.284. They are greater than their correlation between each other except the vibration factor. According to the results of confirmatory factor analysis, the ?2/df was 1.984,RMR was 0.017,RMSEA was 0.045,NFI was 0.852, and IFI was 0.921.Conclusions1. RULA had good reliability and validity to evaluate the awkward posture of shipbuilding industry workers.2. OCRA in Chinese version basically accommodates the requirement to assess shipbuilding workers' musculoskeletal risk, but still need further adjustment.3.Musculoskeletal Questionnaire was preliminary determinded through item analysis and exploratory factor analysis. The reliability and validity of Musculoskeletal Questionnaire in Chinese version is fair to evaluate shipbuilding workers after appropriate adjustment. In conclusion, they were good to assess work-related musculoskeletal disorders in shipyard workers.
