ObjectivesTo explore the effects of Motivational Interviewing on weight control of pre-diabetes patients, and evaluate the results from patient’ BMI,Clinical related indicators,TTM,dietary and exercise behavior, knowledge of prediabetes and the attitude towards diabetes.Methods110 pre-diabetes patients in a third-grade class-A hospital of Zhengzhou were selected during January 2016-June 2016,and were randomly assigned into intervention group and control group,55 couples each.Control group received diabetes related knowledge guidance, intervention group received motivational interviewing on the basic of control group. The state of BMI,Clinical related indicators,TTM,dietary and exercise behavior, knowledge of prediabetes and the attitude towards diabetes were compared in pre-intervention,post-intervention and post-intervention in three months. The instruments include general demographic questionnaire,TTM scale,The simplified Food Food Frequency Questionnaire,Quantitative standardized questionnaire for exercise, prediabetic knowledge questionnaire,Diabetes Empowerment Scale-Short Form.Anthropometry and clinical related indicators, the questionnaires were handled by the researcher. The data were collected and input the IBM SPSS 21.0 statistic software. The statistic methods included descriptive statistical analysis, two independent samples t test,Chi-square test,Fisher’s exact test, non parametric test, repeated measures analysis of variance and generalized linear mixed models.Results110 patients were selected,10(9.1%)patients were lost for the reason of move, lost contact,go abroad and diseases,so 100 patients were completed the study,52 patients in the intervention group,48 patients in the control group.1.The statistical analysis showed that there was statistically significant difference in 2h blood glucose between two groups in post-intervention(P<0.05).There were statistically significant difference in BMI,fasting glucose,2h blood glucose, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure between two groups in post-intervention in three months(P<0.05).The BMI,blood glucose and blood pressure of two groups decreased with time, patients of the intervention group significantly decreased compared with the control group after repeated measurement analysis of variance(P<0.001).2.There was statistically difference in patients’ stages of change between two group in post-intervention and post-intervention in three months(P<0.001).The stages of change of two groups move forward with time, patients of the intervention group significantly better compared with the control group after repeated measurement analysis of variance(P<0.001).3.There was statistically difference in patients’ dietary behavior between two group in post-intervention and post-intervention in three months(P<0.001).The dietary behavior of two groups decreased with time, patients of the intervention group significantly decreased compared with the control group after repeated measurement analysis of variance(P<0.001).There was statistically difference in patients’ exercise behavior between two group in post-intervention(P<0.05),The exercise behavior of two groups increased and then decreased with time, patients of the intervention group significantly increased compared with the control group after repeated measurement analysis of variance(P<0.001).4.There were statistically difference in patients’ knowledge of prediabetes and the attitude towards diabetes between two group in post-intervention and postintervention in three months(P<0.001).The knowledge of two groups increased with time, patients of the intervention group significantly increased compared with the control group after repeated measurement analysis of variance(P<0.001).The attitude towards diabetes of two groups changed with time, patients of the intervention group significantly increased compared with the control group after repeated measurement analysis of variance(P<0.001).The attitude towards diabetes of intervention group increased and then decreased, but higher than the control group.ConclusionMotivational interviewing can significantly improve patients’ motivation and health belief, increase knowledge of prediabetes and the attitude towards diabetes, improve dietary and exercise behavior, promote weight control, reduce BMI,blood glucose and blood pressure. Therefore motivational interviewing is suitable for the weight control of pre-diabetes patients, and the effect is good.
