ObjectiveTo analyze the TCM syndrome distribution of allergic rhinitis(AR),asthma(BA),allergic rhinitis and asthma syndrome(CARAS),summarize the characteristics of TCM syndrome of CARAS,and to explore the TCM syndromes relationship of AR、BA、CARAS,with the purpose to provide clinical basis for TCM syndrome differentiation in treatment.MethodsTo collect and sort out the TCM Syndrome information of AR,BA,CARAS,which was searched from the University textbooks, monographs, national professional standard by the means of TCM Syndrome Research Literature. Then the official TCM syndrome questionnaire was established after expert demonstration and pre-research.The patients which were diagnosed as AR,BA or CARAS in the Department of ENT or Department of respiration diagnosis of Guangdong Province Traditional Chinese Medical Hospital were selected to the clinical research. The statistical analysis of data was carried out in SPSS17 statistical software, using descriptive statistics, sample clustering analysis and corresponding analysis to analyze the TCM syndrome distribution of AR、BA、CARAS and explore the TCM syndromes relationship of three diseases.Results1.Among the 416 patients whose TCM syndrome were investigated,123 AR patients,157 BA patients, and the rest of them were CARAS patients.2.Most of the patients with AR were young, highly educated; Most of the patients with BA were elderly, moderate degree; Most of the patients with CARAS were young or middle-aged,moderate degree.Further more, female patients of these three diseases were more than male patients. Our study found that AR symptoms was mostly appeared in CARAS patients at first, and the onset of age was ahead of BA,showed that AR should be treated in time.Otherwise, some of them probably suffer from CARAS because of the protracted condition of AR.3.Identifications of the TCM syndrome of three diseasesIdentifications of the TCM syndromes of three diseases showed the syndrome of deficiency of the normal and excess of the pathogenic factors. In syndrome differentiation, the TCM syndromes of AR divided into syndrome of wind-cold attacking the lung, syndrome of wind-heat invading the lung, syndrome of spleen deficiency with dampness-phlegm,syndrome of lung qi deficiency, syndrome of spleen-lung qi deficiency, which explained that the pathogenesis of AR was "deficiency of the normal and excess of the pathogenic wind".The TCM syndromes of BA included syndrome of phlegm-turbidity obstructing the lung, syndrome of phlegm-heat in the lung, syndrome of spleen-lung qi deficiency with phlegm-turbidity obstructing the lung, syndrome of spleen-kidney yang deficiency with retention of cold-fluid in the lung, syndrome of spleen-lung qi deficiency, which reflected that the pathogenesis of BA is "phlegm existing persistently in the lung".The TCM syndromes of CARAS were syndrome of lung-kidney qi deficiency and wind-cold attacking the lung, syndrome of spleen-lung qi deficiency and wind-phlegm invading the lung, syndrome of deficiency of both spleen-lung and kidney causing phlegm-turbidity obstructing these three organs, syndrome of spleen-kidney qi deficiency with wind-phlegm invading the lung, syndrome of kidney-lung qi deficiency with obstruction of phlegm-damp,these syndromes showed that the pathogenesis of CARAS is "deficiency of the normal causing damage of wind-phlegm".4.Discussion on TCM syndromes relationship of three diseasesIn our study, all the TCM syndrome of three diseases have the deficiency of the normal and excess of the pathogenic factors.Deficiency syndrome of AR was related to lung and spleen;Deficiency syndrome of BA and CARAS were both associated with lung, spleen and kidney; The pathogenic factor of AR was wind, pathogenic factor of BA was phlegm, and pathogenic factors of CARAS were wind and phlegm. It was found that the deficiency of the normal or the damage of both spleen and lung caused AR;BA occurred under a long time of the deficiency of the normal, injuring the organs such as lung, spleen and kidney, working with pathogenic factors induced the pertinacious phlegm. As for CARAS,it was a disease based on AR and BA,which were caused by the wind-phlegm and the deficiency of the normal that the damage of the spleen, the lung and the kidney. The results showed that a similarity of pathogenesis of these three diseases is the TCM syndrome of deficiency of the normal organs, such as lung, spleen or kidney, with the damage caused by wind and phlegm.Conclusion1.AR patients were mainly young, highly educated;BA patients were mainly elderly, moderate degree;CARAS patients were mainly young or middle-aged,moderate degree.2.Although the sample size was relatively small, but combined with the relevant literature,we can still show the importance of AR in the process of CARAS,we should pay more attention to the timely treatment of AR.3.Identifications of the TCM syndromes of three diseases show the syndrome of deficiency of the normal and excess of the pathogenic factors. To be more specific, deficiency of the normal means the deficiency of lung, spleen or kidney, excess of the pathogenic factors means the damage caused by wind and phlegm. The pathogenesis of AR is "deficiency of the normal and excess of the pathogenic wind",the pathogenesis of BA is "phlegm existing persistently in the lung",the pathogenesis of CARAS is "deficiency of the normal causing damage of wind-phlegm".The results of the study would motivate physicians to pay more attention to comprehensive knowledge of pathogenesis and syndromes of the diseases in syndrome differentiation.4.TCM syndromes of three diseases are related to deficiency of the normal,to be more specific, the deficiency of the lung, the spleen or the kidney, with the damage caused by wind and phlegm. There is a similarity of pathogenesis of these three diseases.
