| Objective: To understand the periodontal health status of Uygur and Han patients with Alzheimer’s diseases(AD).Methods: Totally 62 patients who were diagnosed as AD(AD group)and 63 patients with normal cognitive function(CN group)in the age range of 50 to 80 years old were enrolled and their periodontal status was examined and evaluated. The degree of cognitive impairment was evaluated by Alzheimer’s mini mental state examination table(MMSE),and subjects were divided into mild, moderate and severe subgroups. The gingival index(GI),plaque index(PI),probing depth(PD),periodontal attachment level(CAL)and bleeding index(BOP%)of the subjects were detected. Results: All the periodontal indexes in AD group were higher than those in CN group, and the periodontal condition became worse with the progression of AD,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).There were significant statistical differences in GI,PI,PD,CAL and BOP% among subgroups of cognitive impairment(P<0.05).There was no significant statistically difference in periodontal status of Xinjiang Han AD patients and Xinjiang Uygur AD patients(P>0.05).Conclusion: Periodontal health status gradually deteriorates with the progress of the AD,and closely relates with the individual’s cognitive function. |
