Analysis Of Trabecular Structure In Osteoarthrosis Of Temporomandibular Joint Using Cone Beam CT

Objective:To innvestigate trabecular structure changes of osteoarthrosis(OA)of temporomandibular joint(TMJ)in different age groups of patients with cone beam computed tomography(CBCT)images.Method:One hundred and forty two TMJ OA patients(aged 18-82 years old)were selected as experimental objects,divided into five groups according to age:18-29 years old,30-39 years old,40-49 years old,50-59 years old,older than 60 years old.All patients were scanned by CBCT with bilateral mandibular condyles.Trabecular parameters were measured and analyzed.Results:The occurrence of TMJOA was higher in females(73.3%)than males(26.7%),there wasn’t significant difference of trabecular structure changes between female and male patients(P>0.05).Compared wit the health condylar,the bone volume fraction of suffered increased(P<0.05),as well as trabecular thickness increased(P<0.05);trabecular number of the patients younger than 40 years old was decreased(P<0.05),while the patients older than 40 years old was tendency to be increased(P>0.05).In different age groups,there wan’t any significant difference of trabecular bone volume fraction(P>0.05).While the trabecular thickness was increase with age(P<0.05).Only a part of the trabecular structure among different phase or severity of erosion and sclerosise were statistically in different age groups.Conclusion:There was some characteristic changes in trabecular parameters of TMJOA patients according to age increased.The results didn’t suggest trabecular parameters of the TMJOA were different among different phase or severity of erosion and sclerosise in deferent age.
