Objective:To find out the status of health literacy in patients with ischemic stroke and their relationship with medication beliefs and medication adherence;To investigate the effect of health literacy on medication beliefs and medication adherence in patients with ischemic stroke;To provide theoretical support for improving the prognosis of patients with ischemic stroke.Method:A non-experimental research was administered in a convenient sample of 208 patients with ischemic stroke selected in two hospitals.The actual sample was 200 cases after removing the 8 patients who asked to quit.in the middle of the survey.The questionnaire survey was used to measure the health literacy,medication beliefs and medication adherence of the subjects.SPSS17.0 was used for statistical analysis and a p value of 0.05 was used to indicate statistical significance.Results:(1)The total health literacy of participants was 139.32±36.21,of which 64.0%had sufficient health literacy,16.5%had a critical level of health literacy,and 19.5%had a lack of health literacy.The total score of health literacy has significant difference in gender,age,marital status,educational level and monthly income(p<0.05).Among the dimensions of health literacy,scores in reading ability were highest and the lowest score were calculating ability.The reading ability score was 62.42±15.58,the comprehension ability score was 57.80±17.06,and the calculating ability score was 19.10±5.99.(2)The total score of medication beliefs was 3.87±2.51.The necessity belief of medication for the study was(17.95±1.77),which was higher than the concern belief score(14.08±1.41).The total score of medication beliefs has significant difference in gender,marital status,educational level,monthly income and adverse reactions(p<0.05).(3)The participants' medication adherence score was 5.69±0.89.Of which 58.5%had poor medication adherence.(4)There were significant differences in medication belief and medication adherence among participants with different level of health literacy(p<0.01).(5)There was a positive correlation between health literacy and the necessary belief(p<0.01),which was negatively correlated with concern belief(p<0.01).Health literacy was positively correlated with medication adherence(p<0.01).(6)Multivariate step-wise regression equation shows that the educational level,age and marital status are factors affecting the health literacy of ischemic stroke patients;Health literacy and medication belief are the influencing factors of medication adherence.Conclusion:Health literacy affects the medication beliefs and medication adherence of patients with ischemic stroke.Improving the level of health literacy is beneficial to enhance the prevention and treatment of stroke,thereby improving the health outcomes of patients with ischemic stroke.
