ObjectiveBy using the epidemiology of overweight and obesity to observe and discuss obesity risk factors such as:Inactivity, lifestyle, the Constitution in TCM and obesity complications of obese patients in Teaching Hospital of Chengdu University of TCM. In order to improve the clinical use of drugs, treatment methods are used/are applied based on syndrome differentiation diagnosis and treatment of TCM in China and overseas. To improve the efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine Methods for obesity prevention and treatment.MethodsMethods used are based on a survey from January 2014 to January 2016 at Teaching Hospital of Chengdu University of TCM (outpatient department and inpatient department) comply with the study inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria obese patients.The survey contents are based on overweight or obese patient’s age, sex, height, weight, waist circumference, BMI, blood pressure, diet, physical activity, obesity complications, family medical history, mental status, smoking history, drinking history, Menstruation condition (women), FPG, TG, TC, HDL-C, ALT, AST, uric acid, complexion, tongue color, tongue-shaped, character of the tongue coating, color of the tongue coating, TCM pulse condition and constitution of Traditional Chinese. Finally included 412 cases. Using SPSS 23.0 statistical software for statistical analysis.Results1) In 412 cases with Obesity, male 172 cases, accounted for 41.75%, female 240 cases, accounted for 58.25%, male to female ratio was 1:1.4.2) In 412 obese patients,324 cases are simple TCM constitution,88 cases are complex TCM constitution (integrating of two or more TCM constitution), each accounted for 79% and 21%.3) In 324 cases of simple TCM constitution, there were 65 cases of gentleness constitution (20.06%),50 cases of qi-deficiency constitution (15.43%),10 cases of yang-deficiency constitution (3.09%),48 cases of yin-deficiency constitution (14.81%),76 cases of phlegmatic hygrosis constitution (23.46%),58 cases of dampness heat constitution (17.90%), 10 cases of blood stasis constitution (3.09%),6 cases of qi-depression constitution (1.85%)and 1 cases of particular constitution (0.31%). The TCM constitutions rankings were:phlegmatic hygrosis constitution> gentleness constitution> dampness heat constitution> qi-deficiency constitution> yin-deficiency constitution> yang-deficiency constitution and blood stasis constitution> qi-depression constitution> particular constitution.4) In the youth stage (<30 years), total 114 cases, male 29 cases, female 85 cases. In middle age (30-59 years), total 158 cases, male 89 cases, female 54 cases. In elderly stage (>60 years), total 85 cases,54 cases of male, female 58 cases.5) In 412 obese patients,45.87% of obese patients had diabetes,26.21% of obese patients had hypertension,16.50% of obese patients had fatty liver disease, other diseases fewer than 10%.ConclusionsIn this study, obesity occurs mainly in middle-aged women compared to men. Obese patients more likely to develop a number of potentially serious health problems, including:diabetes, hypertension and fatty liver.
