| Objectives To understand the status and analyze the influential factors of constipation in the elderly people in a community in Tangshan City.Methods During September 2014 to November, elderly people aged 60 years and above were recruited in Qiao Tun community in Lubei District in Tangshan City, they were investigated with questionnaires, including general information survey of elderly people(gender, age, marital status, educational level, et al), Rome Ⅲ criteria, Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI), the rating scale of health self-management skill for adults(AHSMSRS), Medical outcomes study 36-Item short-form health survey(SF-36), Selfreporting inventory(SCL-90), Constipation self-designed questionnaire. All data were established with EXCEL and analyzed with SPSS19.0 package. Specific methods: measurement data were(mean ± standard deviation) for statistical description; univariate analysis of count data were performed using the chi-square test, the variables of multivariate analysis from the univariate analysis with statistical significance: work statue, daily water intake, smoking, morning without water, eating less vegetables, irregular defecation time, often inhibit defecation, regularly dining, exercising, sleep state, health self-management, family urge medical care, behavior modification, SF-36, kinds of chronic diseases, psychological symptoms as independent variables, whether suffering from constipation or not as the dependent variable, for taking logistic regression analysis.Results 1 The incidence rate of constipation in the elderly in community was 30.9%. The prevalence of constipation in male elderly was 28.3%; the prevalence of constipation in female elderly was 33.5%. 60~74-year old group, the prevalence rate was 27.9%; 75~89-year old group, the prevalence rate was 32.9%; 90~98-year old group, the prevalence rate was 37.9%. 2 Single factor analysis of constipation in the elderly people: work statue, daily water intake, smoking, morning without water, vegetables, irregular defecation time, often inhibit defecation, regularly dining, exercising, sleep state, health self-management, family urge medical care, behavior modification, kinds of chronic diseases, SF-36, psychological symptoms(P<0.05). 3 Multiple factors analysis of constipation in the elderly people: Logistic regression results showed that the influential factors of suffering from constipation were: vegetables, SF-36, exercising, health self-management, daily water intake(ml), irregular defecation time, sleep state, behavior modification, psychological symptoms, there is statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusions 1 The incidence rate of constipation in the elderly in community was high, the prevalence rate of constipation in the female elderly was higher than that in the male elderly, the prevalence rate of constipation in the 90~98-year old group was higher than that in the other two groups. 2 The risk factors of constipation of elderly were complicated, including single species of vegetables, poor health status, less exercise, low level of health self-management, inadequate water intake, irregular defecation, sleep disorder, family did not correct the bad behavior of the elderly, adverse psychological symptoms. |
