Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity and silent cerebral infarction in adult men. Methods The research subjects were 904 cases of senior executives who came from the same unit underwent the health screening which was proceed in Kai Luan general hosptial between June and November in 2011, All subjects filled in personal information, the height, weight, blood pressure and biochemical tests were performed. The measurement of brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity and head spiral CT was performed in uniform standard. It was the diagnostic criterion that spiral CT showed one or more low density necrosis lesions greater than 2mm without obvious neurological dysfunction. All Participants were divided into the younger group(?55y) and the elder group(>55y)according to median age(55y). Every group was divided into normal ba PWV group(ba PWV<1400cm/s) and increased ba PWV group(ba PWV?1400cm/s) respectively.Use SPSS19.0 software to analyzed the prevalence of SCI between normal ba PWV and increased ba PWV in each population group respectively. Using multivariate logistic regression models to explore the correlation bewteen increased ba PWV and prevalence. Results 1) The prevalence of silent cerebral infarctions in increased baPWV group were higher than that in normal ba PWV group, the difference between groups is statistically significant(P<0.05). 2) Taking SCI as a dependent variable, Multivariate Logistic regression models was used to explore the correlation between occurrence of SCI and increased ba PWV. It showed that the prevalence of SCI in increased ba PWV group was 1.984 times(95%CI : 1.133 ~ 3.472) than that in the normal group in all participants, and in the > 55 age group population, the prevalence of SCI in increased ba PWV group was 2.455 times(95%CI:1.001~6.026) than that in the normal ba PWV group, but there was no statistically significant(P=0.192,OR=1.611,95%CI:0.787~3.294) in ?55y participants. Conclusion There was a closely correlation between increased ba PWV and prevalence of silent cerebral infarction in the male population over the age of 55 years old. but it is not obvious in the male population under 55 years.
