Objective: Prolactin,(abbr.PRL,also known as lactogen or lactogenic hormone)is composed and secreted by the anterior pituitary gland cells. It is controlled by prolactin releasing hormone from the hypothalamus and releasing inhibitory hormone which is more important.Through the comparison between the prolactin secreting level of common pneumonia patients and the severe patients(before and after treatment, improved and not improved)in this study,we can figure out whether the change of prolactin level of patients with severe pneumonia has a certain relationship with the severeness of their infection,so that we can prove the prolactin level can be the reference index for the infection severeness of pneumonia patients. Methods: Selected randomly for the severe pneumonia patients in Baoding No.1 Central Hospital from November,2013 to June,2014 and among them, there were 15 males and 15 females, aging from 23 to 55 and the average age was 36.13+9.05.Meanwhile,selected randomly from the common pneumonia patients in Baoding No.1 Central Hospital as contrast and among them there were 15 males and 15 females and the average age is 38.57+7.68.All the subjects need to be measured for their PRL level. The changing level of PRL among patients with severe pneumonia in the pre and post treatment was comparised. As for statistical analysis of comparative data related to PRL level among severe pneumonia and common pneumonia patients, all numerical values were represented by data±standard deviation, compared with the treatment of severe pneumonia patients improved and treatment did not improve the level of prolactin decreased used SPSS19.0statistical analysis software to deal with, and employed texamine the comparison within or between groups. It was significantly with P<0.05.Results: 1 A group of patients with severe pneumonia compared with common pneumonia patients clinical data.In all 30 cases of severe pneumonia, male and female accounted for 15 cases respectively, the average age of 36.1±9.05 years and the age distribution was 23-55.In all 30 cases of common pneumonia, male and female accounted for 15 cases respectively, the average age of 38.5±7.68 years and the age distribution was 27-52.There was no statistically significant in the age of patients with severe pneumonia and the control group(P>0.05).2 The level of PRL in patients with severe pneumonia(592.34±166.11uIU/ml)was higher than that in patients with common pneumonia(476.4±136.3uIU/ml).And there was statistically significant in the two group(P<0.05).Taking PRL515uIU/ml as the cutoff point, the sensitivity was 81.7%,specificity was 60.3%.3 The statistic was significantly in the comparison between the serum PRL level of severe pneumonia patients before and after the treatment(408.87±158.09uIU/ml).The difference that the PRL level of severe pneumonia patients after the treatment declined sharply(P<0.05).4 The group after the treatment of severe pneumonia,23 patients were significantly improved, and 7 patients had no obvious improvement.PRL level in patients with improvement decreased more than the level in patients with no improvement. And the statistic was significantly with them(P<0.05).Taking the lower of PRL140 uIU/ml as the cutoff point, the sensitivity was 82.6%,specificity was 75.7%.Conclusions:1 The comparison between serum PRL levels of severe pneumonia patients and the common one and the comparison between the blood PRL level of patients with severe pneumonia before and after the treatment show that the level of PRL is related to the severity of the infection。2 The PRL level of patients with severe pneumonia can decrease significantly after the treatment, and decreased levels were associated with the prognosis of patients, which suggests that the serum prolactin is expected to be used as a reference index of assessing the severity of the disease and can help to judge the condition of severe pneumonia patients and their prognosis in clinical.
