SPACE has been explicitly put forward and used as the core of architecture since the modern architecture. The core of space lies in its design and generation. So how is the space generated? How should the mechanism of this generation process be described and studied? These questions constitute the key to the study of architecture space generation in the paper.The space of the architecture is defined by the mass. In the most "primitive"state, there is an unoperational mass without any space, and the space is generated with the operation on such a single or multiple masses. The paper analyzes the mechanism of architectural space from the perspective of "mass to space". Based on the research of the Tectonic Lab of the Chinese University of Hong Kong,this paper distinguishes the way of space generation in three different mode,and studies the mechanism and characteristics of space generation in each mode by diagram and analysis. On this basis, due to the logicality and the correlation of the parametric method,this paper introduces the parametric method to simulate and study the change of the space generation mode. Under the above principle, the paper experimented the application of parametric method on "mass reduction" method.The study of space generation mechanism can be understood as a method to analyze and understand the building. This paper explores the application of a parametric method in the study and hopes to provide a new tool in space research in architecture.
