The national culture is an indispensable resource of tourism development. However what’s more important for tourism development is to increase profits and economic benefit. This often leads to showing the national culture superficially which means tourists can only acquire ostensible experience of national culture. The sort of phenomenon is called "pseudo events", "the freezing of traditions". If things continue this way, the national culture of developed community may lose the motive to innovate and deviate its own development of rail. Finally, it will be assimilated by other cultures. A lot of scholars put forward different patterns of developing and protecting national culture. The thesis adopts the pattern "the front stage, purdah, the back stage" which is suggestive and practical. The example is an ancient town named "Dangaer" in Huangyuan, Xining, Qinghai Province. I investigated the actualities of the development of national culture in Dangaer and analysed the problems. Then try to propose effective solutions to these problems. The thesis is split into 4 chapters. Chapter one is introduction. It contains the research background, the correlative theories of the anthropology of tourism and the content and research method of "the front stage, purdah, the back stage". The second chapter narrates the natural situation, the history of multiracial and current developed situation of national culture in Dangaer detailedly. It shows the tourist resources in Dangaer which are abundant and profound. The third chapter leads into the theory, try to reveal the situation of the front stage in Dangaer by the accounts of indigene. Then it forecasts the new tourism layout that may endanger the existent purdah. Besides, it also narrates the current situation of protecting national culture in the ancient town. The last chapter summarizes several problems of tourism development and protecting the national culture and rethinks the theory of "the front stage, purdah, the back stage"profoundly, in addition, tries to put forward effective suggestions by drawing lessons from successful example in China.
