Research On The Driving Factors Running In Open Innovation Ecosystem

In recent years, with the rise of the open innovation paradigm in the global scope, the development of innovation ecosystem shows the characteristics of obvious openness. On the one hand, the development of innovation ecosystem has already broken the traditional region, industry and country limits driven by the IT and Internet technology, and has began to permeate the non-technological industry; On the other hand, the increasing technology complexity and market dynamics make the network and interaction of the subjects frequent and thorough in the innovation ecosystem, the enterprise boundary fuzzy, and the openness of the innovation ecosystem is increasing. The open innovation ecosystem practices led by some multi-nationals, such as P&G connect and develop, Boeing’s global R&D networks, etc., especially caused the wide attentions from the theory and industry. The European Union pointed out in the new research and innovation framework plan:outlook 2020 that the open innovation ecosystem innovation is the innovation ecosystem that the scope of innovation subject is wider, innovation resources flow more frequently, the innovation chain runs more ecologically innovation ecosystem under the open innovation paradigm. How to promote the liquidity of innovative ideas and innovation resources, enhance the integrated efficiency of innovation resources, promote innovation performance to meet the demand of customers and promote the ecological development of the innovation chain, are the main problems within the wide ranges of subjects during the development of the open innovation ecosystem. Research on the driving factors of the open innovation ecosystem operation has gotten the attention of scholars.Based on the theories of innovation ecosystem, open innovation, and open innovation ecosystem, the paper conducts the multi-case study method based on the different innovation stages to explore the driving factors of the open innovation ecosystem by using three intelligent terminal operating systems, such as the iOS, Android and Symbian in the mobile communication industry. First of all, we put forward a research framework about this article based on the research review on innovation ecosystem, open innovation and open innovation ecosystem at home and abroad; And then, we identify the driving factors of the open innovation ecosystem operation using content analysis, factor analysis and the typical events analysis in the different stages of innovation process; Finally, we analyse the evolution characteristics about the driving factors of the open innovation ecosystem based on the innovation stages.The results show that an open innovation ecosystem’s appearance is determined by the different integration paradigms of its internal R&D and business ecosystem at different innovation stages. The hub firm, alternatively playing the role of consumer, producer or disintegrator in a specific innovation stage, is the main driver. First, plenty of financial resources, the scarce market resources and the reciprocal platform resources, are the fundamental factors with diverse influences on the open innovation ecosystem in different stages. Second, the orientational scanning and absorbing abilities, the integrated synergy and innovation abilities, the normative governance and distribution abilities of the hub firm, are the critical factors with diverse influences on the open innovation ecosystem in different stages. Third, the transformational culture of the capable, the cooperative culture of the clan and the orchestrating culture of the win-win, are the indemnificatory factors with diverse influences on the open innovation ecosystem in different stages. Furthermore, a flourishing entrepreneurship context, an unified technical standard and a wide range of user participation are also the important conditions with diverse influences on the open innovation ecosystem in different stages.
