"Mainland Student" Media Representation Research

As the cross-strait exchanges gradually deeper, the Mainland student study in The Taiwan region becomes an important bond for cross-strait links to each other. Students are the future of cross-strait relation, making the understanding between each other especially for younger, which lays the foundation for the common cultural identity. In this regard, the media plays an important role, and the media representation has become a focus in the study of the author.This study examines the major newspapers in The Taiwan region, represent the image of "Mainland student", by watching how the news media represent the Mainland student in The Taiwan region society, discussed The Taiwan region society how to view the Mainland student under the background of the complexity of the cross-strait relations, This study selected the representative newspaper United Daily News, China Times and Liberty Times in The Taiwan region on Mainland student of 562 manuscripts from 2011 to 2015 for the sample. Through content analysis and text analysis of the articles,the research summarized the tendencies of media frame on Mainland student. By comparing different newspapers, we find the differences between them in different ways, including characteristic, the reproduction of "the other" stereotypes and the differences of cultural identity and the construction strategy of the frames.Finally, the paper tries to analyze the impact of the news on the relations of cross-strait, and discussed the possibility of mass media in playing a role in the development of cross-strait relation. And also do some thinking on the cross-straits youth problems under the background of "one China". Reiterated the media in reporting on terrestrial news should hold an objective stance, and explore the possible path of youth in-depth exchanges in the future.
