Since the Reform and Opening, Martial Arts have attracted tremendous attention from the Party and government.Martial Arts education has gradually been recovered and developed. Martial Arts become an important embodiment in China’s sports development. "People’s Daily" as the official newspaper of the CPC Central Committee, has had recurrent reports on Martial Arts. Among those reports on the Martial Arts, there is always the correct guidance of public opinion implanted; the principles of the party newspaper of the CCP have been completely implemented. This article adopts the reports on Martial Arts from "People’s Daily" as the study subjects, using the methods of content analysis, and 1 i terary review, etc., classifying and concluding from the martial arts reports, and finally it explores the rules, character and change reflected in the reports on Martial Arts in "People’s Daily". According to the developments of Marital Arts after the Reform and Opening in China, this article argues that those reports should be divided into four phases from their amount, content and direction:Chinese Martial Arts recovery and development phase (1979-1990); Frequent exchange of the Chinese Martial Arts phase (1991-1999); the development of competitive martial arts; Martial Arts tournament career phase (2000-2008); and the recession phase after Beijing Olympic Games (2008-present).After the analysis, we found that, with the time passing, the reports amount on Martial Arts from "People’s Daily" implies a rising trend. However, they have been influenced by the elements such as the politic strategies, the economic environment, the cultural value and the situation of sport development in different historical stages. Compared with other mainstream sport reports in "People’s Daily", the total quantity of martial arts reports is not many and the attention they have gained is insufficient. Hence, we need to make great effort from various aspects to strengthen people’s attention on this sport and to improve the quality of the reports on Martial arts, and furthermore, to communicate and spread the culture and spirit in Martial arts.
