Calculating teachers’ workload at colleges and universities is the basis of teaching evaluation and class fees. However, as differences exist in the calculation, there are few workload calculating software on the market. In most colleges and universities, teachers still sign their names in paper forms after a class, and educational administration staff calculates every teacher’s class fees by hand which leads to low work efficiency. Furthermore, some colleges and universities have designed their own calculating software, which is not universal and difficult to upgrade. This thesis focuses on analysis and construction of a system for management of college-teacher workloads. First, workload statistical process and class-hour fee calculation are respectively investigated to define functional and non-functional requirements. The system has four types of users—system administrator, teacher, teaching secretary, and educational administrator. The paper gives each user’s use cases and provides an overall design including system operating design and database design. Second, system model is established using UML modeling method to describe development steps. The paper analyzes the detailed design and implementation of three functional modules—Teaching Arrangement, Teacher Check-in Management, and Workload Report Management, and also elaborates key technical issues in system development such as workload calculating formula, calculating process, and AJAX technical application in some of the modules. Finally, through demonstration of operational effects, some evaluations and improvement suggestions are given for this system. This System adopts C# language, Microsoft SQL Server2008 as the database, and Visual Studio 2005 as the development tool. It can solve many problems of teachers signing in paper forms, such as signing in for others, forgetting to sign in, signing in long time after, and reporting a false number of classes, so as to make educational administration scientific and rigorous. In addition, the system is capable of automatically calculating every teacher’s workload and class fees, simplifying the tedious and error-prone task, and significantly improving work quality and efficiency.
