The Container Terminal Operation Management Information System

Container shipping is one of the most important transportation modes for the modern logistics business. In recent years, with the growth of total demand for container transport,it is urgent to improve the overall efficiency for the container terminal by using the infor mation management methods. So through the site visits for the container terminal of Qinh uangdao port, this paper systematically analyzed the work business conditions and operati ng procedures based on a series of the problems, including information technology system s are not perfect and scalable. At last, considering the operational requirements, this paper presents the new container terminal management information system by the use of inform ation technology tools.The system is C/S(client / server) frame structure, which using Power Builder in the front control interface and large capacity of Oracle database in the back-end information data storage. The management system contains six subsystems: customer management system, electronic document system, data statistic and query system, shipping information system, container yard system, price management system. To make certain that the wharf and dock run smoothly, reasonably and conveniently with supervision in place,the existing hardware resources have been integrated effectively and reasonably, moreover a set of complete production plan have been provided by the corresponding data and information analysis.This system has passed the test and been put into operation in Qinhuangdao port formally which can not only meet the needs of daily work in port, at the same time, improve the operation efficiency and the storage space utilization rate,besides, reduce the overall cost of terminal operations, all of this has aroused general admiration. With the continuous change of terminal business, the system optimization and the ability of management and service will be improved too.
