With the development of science and technology, the information communication is gradually increasing, high-speed data processing and transmission has become a trend. As the key part of sending and receiving data, interface circuit has very important influence on transmission and processing of data. However, the traditional interface circuit can’t meet the requirement of signal processing which is under the condition of high rate. In order to support the receiving and sending of the data with high speed, new technology and standards are needed.As a part of the interface circuit, transmitter will make the data which is inside of the chip meet the requirements of the system before sending it. The data which is send to the receiver must meet the minimum standards set by the receiver at the same time. With the improvement of data transfer rate, the design of the transmitter will face more problem and the corresponding indicator requirements will be higher.Based on the study of theory and technology for high speed interface, a 5 Gbps high-speed serial transmitter is designed using 55 nm CMOS process. Then the simulation and layout design are finished. The article content mainly includes the following aspects:1. Study the related theory of high-speed interface circuit, analyze and compare the implementation techniques of high-speed interface circuit, then find the way(the low pressure differential serial transmission technology and CML) which is selected in the paper design.2. Research the problem in design of high speed serial transmitter, which including signal integrity problems, balanced, bandwidth expansion and other related problems. And put forward the corresponding solutions to solve these problems.3. Complete the design of the transmitter module, including parallel to serial, single to differential, level conversion and the CML driver, based on the 55 nm CMOS technology and combining with the characteristics of the high frequency signal. And simulate the module of each part and the whole.4. Research the design of layout with mixed-signal, and finish the layout design of the transmitter circuit.
