For the wireless multimedia sensor network (WMSN) has abundant abilities of multimedia sensory. It has a wide range of applications in civilian, military, business and other fields and has been paid great attraction to by domestic and foreign research institutions. Hereinto, high-performance wireless multimedia node is a key element of constructing WMSN network. This thesis adopts high-performance DSP processor to design and implement superior performance multifunction wireless multimedia sensor nodes, combined with binocular stereoscopic camera and ZigBee wireless communication technology, and also carried out a large number of experiments.First of all, on the basis of analyzing basic concepts and system architecture of WMSN, ZigBee protocol has been selected as the group network communication protocols of WMSN, compared with existing short-range wireless communication technology.To deal with image, audio, vibration and other multimedia information perception and processing, high-performance DSP (DM642@600MHz) processor is employed as the system core. Binocular stereoscopic camera is introduced to build 3D visual perception and additionally, triaxial accelerometer sensor, trixial geomagnetic sensor, temperature sensor, human body pyroelectric sensor, humidity sensor, audio sensor and so forth are integrated to achieve synthetic environment perception. Hardware and software system of WMSN is designed and implemented, and node volume is compressed effectively through the use of multilayer circuit. Thus software driver program for node peripheral is developed successfully. What’s more, to simplify the test for node system performance, this thesis has designed a graphical display interface program on.NET platform. Then the sink nodes send data to PC screen through serial port, making the abstract sensor data direct-viewing and vivid, which provides great convenience for node tests.A large number of node performance tests are made according to the actual environment and application requirements. The collection, processing and analysis of audio, environment, images, and other media information is conducted. In addition, verification and analysis of the WMSN node performance combined with experimental data.Finally, according to the design of this thesis, some summarizes are made and the direction of subsequent improvement are indicated.
