Current Development Status And Countermeasure Analysis On China’s Digital Self-publishing

With the continuous development of network technology, online reading becomes more popular in society. The digital self-publishing, which arises at this historical moment, has not only met the diversified needs on reading of readers, but also provided broad space of publication for writers. At present, China’s digital self-publishing is still in the initial period, and digital self-publishing platform is in the stage of exploration. The large scale of digital self-publishing has not formed, and a certain gap exists when compared with the developed countries. This thesis aims to explore the current development status of digital self-publishing in China, then to analyze the main problems of digital self-publishing, and at last tries to make constructive countermeasures and responses to these issues.First of all, starting from the concept of digital self-publishing, this thesis introduces the origins and characteristics of digital self-publishing. Secondly, it explores the current development status of China’s digital self-publishing: the major form of online literature; the diverse explores of publishing models; the trend to minority of publishing platforms. In this part, JingDong Self-publishing, Donban self-publishing platform and “Lai Chu Shu” self-publishing platform are focused and analyzed as three major cases, and based on the “minority culture ” and “long tail” theory, the trend to minority of publishing platforms is explained. Thirdly, it points out the main problems of China’s digital self-publishing from the quality of work, copyright, marketing, writers, and talents aspects. Finally, according to the current development status and problems, it puts forward constructive countermeasures: strengthening relevant regulations and policies; designing specification process of digital self-publishing; cooperating with traditional publishing to be win-win; changing the publishing attitudes of traditional writers; training new type of composite publishing talents.In general, though China’s digital self-publishing is still in the initial period and there still exist many problems to be solved, its pace of development and prospects in the future are inestimable. So China’s digital self-publishing deserves extensive attention of the whole society.
